October 2013

Sorry for the lack of updates. At the end of August, I left my full-time job to work from home for my wife’s tutoring company, Boston Tutoring Services, and do some consulting work for a concert promotion company. In the long-term, this will free me up to get Berube Farm officially up and running next Spring, but in the meantime I have been very busy doing non-farm activities.

What time I have had for the farm has been spent enjoying the Fall harvest, and trying to grow several vegetables for the first time. I’m growing two kinds of radish, watermelon and german giant, which have both grown well in the mild weather this fall. I am also growing kale, bok choi, and cabbage this Fall, all of while are doing much better than the Spring crops.

Starting on October 23 I will be taking New Entry’s Farm Business Training Course. This 8-week course is for new farmers, and covers a variety of farm business planning topics including marketing, product selection and budgeting. Stay tuned for more updates, I will share my experiences in the course, as well as my business plan, as the course progresses.
