May 2017 Farm Update

by danberube on May 25, 2017

Hello Farm Friends!

We have been so busy over the past few weeks, and today’s rainstorm has provided a break from planting and some “free time” to write a farm update.

Planting has been going very well in the new field. Already, hundreds of tomato plants are in the ground, along with tomatillos, leeks, cucumbers, cabbage, kale, bok choi and lettuce seedlings. The garlic crop also looks excellent this year and is on track for an early July harvest.

Having one farm site this year has really helped move the work along. It’s much easier when you only have to set up one irrigation system instead of three, and don’t have to constantly move equipment from place to place. Last season we weren’t able to finish planting until June 18 for our summer crops. This year we should be done by June 4, which hopefully means we’ll have more of the seasonal veggies you love sooner. Over the next 10-14 days we’ll be working hard to get zucchinis, cucumbers, winter squash, watermelons, beans and a few more greens in the ground. There is so much to look forward to and the first CSA pickup is only 6 weeks away!

Thanks to everyone who has renewed and welcome to all our new CSA members. I’m so glad we are farming for you this summer!

If you haven’t renewed yet, there is still time so don’t miss out! Download the order form, and if you have any questions, please email me at

I look forward to seeing you at the farm this summer.

April 2017 Farm Update

by danberube on April 17, 2017

Hello Farm Friends!

The weather is warming up, and that means fresh vegetables are on the way. I want to thank everyone who has already renewed their CSA for this summer, and welcome our new members. If you haven’t had a chance sign up yet, don’t worry, there is still time to get your order in.

As you may know, we are moving to a new farm location in Dracut this summer. I’m very excited by this move, for the first time all our fields will be in one location and you will be able to pickup at the farm!

I’ve already begun work on the farmsite to prepare it for our first plantings in just a few weeks. The fields are actually in good shape nutrient-wise, which is important because there are literally thousands of seedlings waiting to go in the ground.

I’ve got a couple of exciting things I want to share. First off, our new farm has blueberry bushes! I’ve been working over the past week to prune them, as it has been a few years since they received any TLC. I am seeing new growth on the plants, which means if all goes well we’ll have our first fruit in the CSA this summer.

Secondly, we are seriously upgrading the amount and variety of tomatoes we grow. While I know some of you get tired of kale or zucchini by the end of the season, no one has ever complained about having too many tomatoes. The selection of available heirloom tomatoes grows each year as the public shows more interest in them. We’ll be bringing back all the old favorites, along with some really cool new ones like Blue Cherry tomatoes. I really love sharing these new varieties with you and growing food you can’t get anywhere else, so please share your feedback on which ones we should keep going forward.

Finally, a plug for the CSA – if you haven’t renewed yet – Download the order form, and if you have any questions, please email me at

I look forward to seeing you at the farm this summer.
