2017 CSA Week 7

by danberube on August 13, 2017

Hello Farm Friends!

We’re crossing the half-way point of the season! Mid-August usually brings in a next cycle of vegetables, so this week should be very exciting.

First off, our tomatoes are finally ripening after a slow start. We’ve got a number of different varieties in the field, but the most likely candidates for this week are two purple varieties – Black Beauty (touted as the world’s darkest tomato) and Wild Berry (a purple cherry). These are both new for 2017 so I’ll be looking for feedback on their taste. We’re probably another few weeks away from peak tomato in terms of quality and variety in the share.

Also new for this week is winter squash. We’ll be doing a ripeness test on our squash on Tuesday, but I think the Acorn squash is the one most likely to be ready, with Spaghetti Squash to follow in week 8.

Finally, if you can’t get enough veggies, or have some friends that have heard about the CSA and want to try some of our produce, please tell them to come by the annual¬†Frobies Farm and Craft Market¬†this coming Saturday, August 19, from 9am-2pm. It would be great to see some familiar faces.

See you at the farm!
Here is a list of what we are expecting to harvest this week. Please keep in mind this list is subject to change based on crop conditions.
