2017 CSA Week 5

by danberube on July 30, 2017

Hello Farm Friends!

Here is the week 5 update. It’s been a little up and down on the farm. Crops are growing well and we’re going to be seeing more new crops in the CSA over the next few weeks. Unfortunately, the deer have really stepped up their aggressive eating habits and have started picking off some of our winter squash on the far end the field. Don’t worry, we’re working to keep them away from the rest of the crops and we’ll still get some winter squash, but not in the numbers we hoped. This happens with one crop or another every year; it’s all a part of farming, just not the fun part!

This week you’ll receive your first garlic cloves of the season. These were planted last November and are finally cured and ready for you. They will store well in your refrigerator through the summer and well into the fall. Our variety of garlic is called “Music.” It is originally from Italy and grown from organic seed.  It’s flavor is slightly spicy when raw and turns sweeter when cooked.

See you at the farm!
