2017 CSA Week 1

by danberube on July 2, 2017

Hello Farm Friends!

It’s finally here, our first CSA pickup of the season! Months of preparation and hard work are about to start paying off.

Important Pickup Info
As many of you are aware, we have moved to a new farm site this year, located at 1374 Broadway Road in Dracut. Please enter to the right of the barn from Salem Road and park on the right site of the dirt road. Please do not park in the paved driveway, that is for the tenants of the farmhouse. Please turn around before exiting, do not back out onto Salem Road. Here is a map of the farm to show you the entrance.

Scheduling Share Pickups
Full Season Shares – If you chose a day (Thursday/Sunday) on your order form, your share will be waiting for you on that day. If you did not choose a day, you need to reply to this email each week letting us know what day you will pickup.

7-Week Shares – Please reply to this email if you would like to pick up this week, and let us know whether you will pick up Thursday or Sunday. If you do not want to pick up, there is no need to reply.

Please email by Tuesday night for Thursday pickups and Friday night for Sunday pickups so we have time to schedule your vegetables for harvest.

Alright, now that all the important details are out of the way, let’s get to the farm update. As we’ve talked about in previous emails and on Facebook, this wasn’t the greatest spring for growing conditions, especially because of the cold weather that continued into June. Because of this, some of our crops are behind where we would like them to be. For instance, I was already harvesting zucchini by this time last year, and the cabbage is not growing as fast as I would like. While some crops may be delayed a bit, most will catch up and since we haven’t had any crop losses yet, it doesn’t look like any permanent harm has been done. So that is good news.

As our returning members know, the first few weeks tend to be on the smaller size as we focus on our perennial herbs and spring greens. Share sizes will increase as more crops come into season. Check out the “What’s Growing” section below to see what we’re expecting to harvest this week, and for recipe ideas!

I look forward to meeting all our new CSA members and seeing our returning members again starting this Thursday. It’s going to be a great summer! Happy 4th!

What We’re Growing
