2016 CSA Week 2

by danberube on July 3, 2016

Happy 4th of July weekend! We are now truly in summer and I am looking forward to the many different vegetables that will be coming into season soon.

It has been an interesting June on the farm. Much like last year, it has been drier than we would like, but unlike last year, it has been much hotter. Fortunately we have irrigation available at both fields, which we have running almost every day. This has led to ideal growing conditions for many summer plants, as our zucchini is having an early boom, tomatoes look to be ahead of last year’s pace, and the peppers seem to have bounced back and are looking my healthier!

In addition to your CSA shares, we have also been selling to the World Peas Food Hub in Lowell. While our sales are still small, this June’s sales tripled from last June, a great sign that the farm is growing. Additionally, we have broken ground on our newest field in North Andover, which we would like to have ready for a major garlic planting this October. There is more to do and to harvest than ever as the farm continues to evolve and we move off the Smith Farm incubator site in Dracut at the end of this year.

I hope everyone that picked up last week enjoyed the first share of the season, and I look forward to seeing all the rest of you soon!
